After graduating high school, Shay spent 2 years at Vancouver Island University studying the sciences in hopes of becoming a high school biology teacher. Realizing that the educational field wasn’t for him, he set out to find a career where he could combine his fascination with the human body with his passion for helping others and working with his hands. Upon completion of the introductory course at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, Shay knew he had found his calling.
A proud graduate of the prestigious 3000-hour program at the WCCMT, Shay excelled in working with athletes and rehabilitating stubborn injuries primarily using deep tissue and myofascial treatments. Shay then spent the first stage of his career focusing on relaxation and wellness working at a spa in the downtown core of Victoria. His time in the spa broadened his understanding that a hammer is not always the best tool for the job, and sometimes a more progressive treatment can yield the best results.
By combining deep tissue with relaxation-style massage Shay has been able to construct a type of treatment that can efficiently release tight or injured muscles while attempting to minimize the discomfort caused during the healing process. Shay firmly believes in educating and helping his patients understand the condition they are dealing with, and finds the more people understand their bodies the easier it is to recover. He feels honoured he gets to help improve the quality of life of people every day.
Shay has had a passion for music since a very young age and enjoys playing guitar in his spare time. He cherishes the time spent with his family, especially working with his grandfather in his wood shop where he learned to build everything from birdhouses to arbours. It was through this craft Shay learned the value and satisfaction of working with his hands which has no doubt brought him down his current career path.
After graduating high school, Shay spent 2 years at Vancouver Island University studying the scie...

I have always been very passionate about helping others. My goal is to facilitate everyday life as well as home, work, and sports environments by relieving pain, restoring normal function, and enhancing athletic performance. I hope to educate and empower each of my patients using various evidence-based soft tissue manipulation, hot/cold stones and customizable home care exercises.
During treatment I like to incorporate hot and cold stones to help with circulation, releasing toxins, facilitating sleep and helping get deeper into the muscles tissues.
Other benefits to hot stones include:
*Stimulating the circulation of blood through the muscles
*Increasing lymphatic flow
*Lowering blood pressure in general
*Increasing supply of oxygen and nutrients to the skin and tissue
*Enhancing immune system (everything is operating quicker within the cell)
*Increased release of toxins and waste products
*Relieves stress, fatigue and tension
*Deeper relaxation
Alternating hot and cold stones in a tight area is very therapeutic and really helps the tissue tension let go. The hot stones dilate the the blood vessels causing fresh blood that’s filled with oxygen and nutrients to rush into the tissue. The heat also helps to free up trapped toxins and waste products. Then when adding the cold stone the blood vessels constrict, and all that fresh blood is carried out if the tissue and along with it- the waste products that were trapped inside the tight tissues.
I also supplement the use of slow deep tissue work, sinking into and holding tender spots until a release is felt. I follow deep tissue work with a lot of flushing/clearing and spurts of relaxation to counterbalance. I will also add passive manipulation as well as active modalities to maximize each treatment when needed.
My goal is to create a safe space for you to openly give me feedback about pressure, heat and techniques so that we can tailor each treatment to fit your individual needs and comfort.
A bit about the therapist:
I grew up here in Victoria with a very active lifestyle as an accomplished national stream synchronized swimmer. I competed for 8 years and in 2013 was a part of one of the first groups of athletes to attend the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence (PISE) to help supplement my training as a high-intensity athlete. This experience fascinated me by how far you can push the body’s limits but also showed me how equally important it is to take care of yourself to ensure that you may continue to perform at a high level while avoiding injury.
I am a proud graduate of West Coast College of Massage Therapy (WCCMT). I enjoy living an active lifestyle that includes indoor bouldering, outdoor rock climbing, and lifting weights. I also enjoy baking, making crystal jewelry and any types of arts and crafts in my spare time.
